Wat means temple in thai and we started off the main tour with three smazing temples today.
The smallest temple we visited today.
This is detail on the door to the far left of the first picture.
The inner square inside was lined with various styles of buddha statues. Maybe 60 or so. Very peaceful and not that crowded so far. We learned some of the differences, but have a long way to go before enlightenment.
You remove your shoes at each temple and at this one we had to do so 100 feet or so from the entrance. We causally walked 40 or so of those feet before it turned into a firewalk. Both our feet were a little sensitive after that journey 🔥
Of coarse a picture never does this sort of thing justice, but look closely, its 3D. Amazing.
Just a solid gold 5.5 ton statue. It was kind of a "big" deal.
Poor photo but it really is us, we're exploring Thailand 🇹ðŸ‡.
The largest temple we have explored to date. Housing the largest buddha I think we will see.
There were two guardians at each of the gates inside and around the temple. They were very cool and different syles/staues at each gate. Some were more relaxed that these warriors.
Everywhere we looked at this seemingly massive grounds we were delighted with something very clever. Mirrored doors, rows of mosaic spires, and beautiful gardens.
Quite frequently you could catch a moment seemingly alone. There were a lot of people, but somehow the design of the space creates quiet pockets to enjoy.
No pictures will do this justice. 138 foot long reclining buddha, which represents a buddhas death. You observe ths buddha from the front first then the back. Large columns obstruct the full view to make you look at the whole body, not just the face. Everything is done with thought and intention, quite obvious. This one was definitely a BIG deal.
Dinner was hosted for the group on the river terrace.
Several group members organized an outing to the "Girlie Boy" show. Strangely entertaining and real awkward when the cast lines the exit for photo ops. Voices don't match bodies and/or their features, on the street and out of context you might be hard pressed to tell they were all men.
Tomorrow Grand Palace.......

I'm glad it's not seeming too hot there for you- those things are just amazing! From architecture to art, everything seems so incredibly foreign, doesn't it? Any good food? I was there almost exactly 20 years ago, I realized: your hotel is just a tiny bit nicer than the hole where Yutaka and I ended up, though! All that gold. Wow.
